The Weeknd (videos)

Shouts to the homie LE for putting me onto Toronto native The Weeknd. Dude reminds me of The-Dream something crazy. I’ve been bumping this all day and it’s growing on me the more I listen to it. Here are some of my faves, but be sure to download the free album ‘House Of Balloons’ from The Weeknd’s website.

I ain’t even blogged about this yet, but we got another supergroup on our hands. Random Axe is Black Milk, Sean Price and Guilty Simpson, and the fellas done dropped a video for ‘The Hex’, their first single from their self-titled album. Shit is as you would expect from these cats. Keen as for the album.

Mayer Hawthorne – Impressions (FreEP)

Mayer Hawthorne has been one of my favourite artists for a minute, and just to reiterate how amazing this cat is, dude drops a free 6 track covers EP.

My favourite cut is his cover of Chromeo’s ‘Don’t Turn The Lights On’, which is fucking genius. Go get this now.

David Dallas – The Rose Tint

So David Dallas has gotta be one of the most hyped up and comers in the game right now. After achieving all that he could in NZ, he moved north to NY, inked a marketing deal with Duck Down and it’s been a wrap ever since. He’s a huge inspiration to us, as it shows what a cat from our side of the planet can achieve.

He drops his latest album, ‘The Rose Tint‘, totally free. And it’s dope as fuck. Check what all the hype is about.

Anthony David – Words ft. India.Arie (video)

Apparently this joint is from 2008. I have no idea how it slipped passed my radar but at least, thanks to Nosh, I found it. It appears Anthony David is a soul singer from Atlanta, and this cut is from his album ‘Acey Ducey’. He’s also cousins with Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men. Peep the ‘Words’ video and live performance, as well as the cut with Phontigga.

4word Presents: Nastee “Obama Bin Laden”

Huge shouts to the homie Nastee for the timeliness on this one.

Produced, Written, Directed & Performed By Nastee

Nastee puts it down In light of the recent capture and murder of Osama Bin Laden. The song was written almost word for word last spring, recorded in December (2010) and the video has been in production since January (2011). Originally slated for a summer release, 4word decided to drop it now amidst all this “Bin Laden” hoopla. 4word’s opinion is that Bin Laden did not and could not have acted alone in the events of September 11. Most likely his accomplices were The Bush & Cheney families since they benefited the most from the attacks. Also, there is no real proof that Osama did it! He has never had a trial. The only proof amerikkkans have is a video tape (dubbed in english) with Osama supposedly taking credit. While I’m sure he was a major part of 911, it’s obvious that he didn’t pull it off by himself.
This song is not about Osama but more of a state of the union address by Nastee, directed in letter form to Barack Obama. The only way to get true change is talk about it and then put it into action…..
