Cee – The Indie Experiment Mixtapes: Remixed & Remastered

What it does y’all?

In 2012, Cee released his debut solo mixtape series entitled ‘The Indie Experiment’, where he carefully selected some of his favourite songs from a diverse range of genres – indie rock, alternative, metal, folk, dubstep, rock, electro – and added his raps to the gaps in the tunes, creating a whole new piece of music. The addition of Hip Hop elements truly resonated with a lot of people, and this is why we’re here right now.

Due to the fantastic response from Cee’s music video for ‘Comin’ Home’, from ‘The Indie Experiment Volume 1′ project, The Movement Fam decided to completely remix and remaster the entire series and rerelease the three mixtapes with a new, bigger sound, thanks to Notion‘s amazing engineering work.

The original series was released on April 10th, June 10th and August 10th respectively. May 10th marks 13 months to the day the original volume debuted, and being that 13 is Cee‘s favourite number, it only made sense to do it today.

‘The Indie Experiment: Remixed & Remastered’ will be live tonight, Thursday May 9th at midnight Eastern Standard Time in Canada/USA, and 2pm Australian Eastern Standard Time on Friday May 10th, via Cee’s Bandcamp page.

Cee – Comin’ Home (Official Video)

Peace y’all,

Is it warming up where y’all are at? Coz Montreal isn’t really playing ball with the whole Spring thing. So TMF felt we should heat it up a bit and bring back the summer vibes courtesy of Cee‘s latest music video.

Comin’ Home‘ was shot in locations around Toronto in the summer of 2012 with Dave Dunville and J Mitchel Reed. The track is lifted from Cee’s ‘The Indie Experiment Volume 1′ mixtape, as his ode to both his homes (Melbourne and Toronto) over City & Colour’s haunting gem of a tune.

Cee speaks on his feelings after selling everything he owned to move to Canada to pursue his dreams with his music. Much love to Josh Telfer, Clem Ryan, Notion and of course Tiffany Alexis for all their help with the filming of the video, and huge props to editor Andrew Howart for putting it all together.

We decided to drop the video on the eve of Cee‘s birthday, so we hope y’all can help him celebrate (today!)!

Cee – The Indie Experiment Volume 3

Yeah, son. So in the span of four months, I managed to drop three volumes of my debut mixtape series and create a piece of art with both the music and the visuals that were solely conceived of by myself (of course with the help of Nosh [mixing/mastering], Josh [photography/art] and Tiff [model/support] to make it happen). I’m really proud of this shit. I’ve only ever been in groups since I started recording and performing 10 years ago (goddamn, time flies eh), so to go solo was a huge step for me.

This third and final volume sees the culmination of the 27 songs of the series, completing The Indie Experiment. There’s a bit of a mix of tunes on this one; about my girl, my city, my art, my stories, some shit talking, and some truth. I think it caps it off nicely.

However y’all feel about this project, it was an experiment that I’m glad I saw through to the end. The response has been much stronger than I ever thought it would be, so I dare say it might inspire my future projects.

Go grab volumes 1 and 2 if y’all haven’t already, and cop volume 3 from www.ceetmf.com. Please hit me with any thoughts, comments, feedback, hate, etc. Love y’all.

Cee – The Indie Experiment Volume 2

Yes, bitches! Volume 2 out this.

For those who ain’t know, this is the second volume of a three volume series of mixtapes where I try to do something that I haven’t heard anyone else do; rap over indie rock/electro/dubstep/alternative/folk/indie songs, while leaving the original tune intact and integrating my rhymes with the theme of the tracks. It’s also my first ever solo mixtape release, so I hope y’all dig it.

Download it free from my Bandcamp page. And tell your mates.

The first volume dropped on my 31st birthday, April 10th 2012. This volume dropped June 10th and Volume 3 drops August 10th.

This one has a strong spiritual/political lean, subjects I’m quite passionate about but haven’t had a lot of opportunities to speak on them in my music. It feels awesome to let this shit out, so I think I’ll be on this vibe for a while.

HUGE shouts once again to everyone who made this happen: Notion (engineering, mixing, mastering), Josh Telfer (design, photography, making my logo out of illegal substances), and my gorgeous girlfriend Tiffany Alexis (cover model, partner in winning).

Notion x Cee February Joints

Maaaan. I’m slackin’ hard on this blog shit. My bad.

So y’all may have noticed that every month, Notion and I are dropping new cuts.

For the shortest month, Uncle Nosh dropped ‘Level We At’, a fuckin’ banger with the homie from back home TruStylz. I love this one, definitely a personal favourite of all the joints Nosh and Truey did before we dipped. Cop it free from Nosh’s Bandcamp.

Myself, I dropped another cut from ‘The Indie Experiment’. This one is the complete opposite of ‘Yellow Brick Road‘ – it’s under 2 minutes, there’s no message except jump the fuck up and smash shit. It’s with one of my favourite Melbourne bands British India. I hope the boys get to hear it actually. Grab it from my Bandcamp, fuckin’.

Cee – Yellow Brick Road x Angus & Julia Stone

This project has been more than 18 months in the making, and this is the first taste of it I’m hitting y’all with. I’ma be dropping a song a month til I release the full mixtapes, so welcome…

I wrote this cut after a huge argument with a close friend, and it seems that some of the best music comes as a result of some sort of drama. When I first heard Angus & Julia Stone’s ‘Down The Way’ album, this tune came on while I was driving. I literally pulled over and couldn’t move for the whole 8 minutes; I had shivers. I knew I had to do something with it.

My project is called ‘The Indie Experiment’. Over the last couple of years, I picked up the guitar again (I’ve been playing on and off since I was 9) and discovered rock/indie/electro/alternative music, and it had a huge affect on me. I decided that I wanted to undertake my first ever solo project by adding my vocals to some of my favourite indie tunes, but instead of chopping the songs up like most rappers tend to do, I left the original song intact and placed my vocals around those of the artist, creating a whole new dichotomy for the song.

It’s going to be a three volume mixtape, with 8 songs on each joint, and I plan to release volume one on my 31st birthday, April 10th, with each volume dropping on May 10th and June 10th, respectively. I’m scared shitless to release such personal material, especially for my first solo joint, but fuck it. I really hope y’all dig it.

You can download or stream the song from my Bandcamp page.

Y’all can check me out on Facebook and Twitter too. Much love.
