Masonic Monuments in Melbourne (video)

So yesterdays post inspired todays.

I've watched this video a few times already and it's really, really interesting. If you're in Melbourne, keep an eye out for different things throughout the city, coz there are SO many things that you don't notice unless you really pay attention.

And while I'm here, check the video of Lebron, Wade and Bosh getting welcomed to Miami.

Hectic Friday (Oscar Grant, Lebron and Rainbows)

Today there was so much shit going on that I thought it'd be simpler to wrap it all up in one special Hectic Friday post. First up, the decision on the recent Oscar Grant murder trial was made today. Long story short, a white policeman shot a young black man point blank in front of a crowd at an Oakland BART station, and the cop got off on a couple years for 'involuntary manslaughter'. This case had serious race overtones, hence the uproar.

The worst part was that it happened on the same day as the Lebron announcement (see below) so half my Twitter feed was about a cop getting off for murdering a human, and the other was about an athlete deciding where to earn his billionth dollar.

Oscar Grant murder/verdict

And this Lebron shit has been wild. I'm not even really a huge sports fan but it was all over Twitter today so I couldn't avoid it.

My two cents: Players leave teams and get traded EVERY FUCKING YEAR. Yeah, the Cavs lost Lebron, but so what? Shit happens. Mike retired, too. Get over it. Good on him.

Lebron decision

That said, majority owner Dan Gilbert wrote a scathing public letter about Lebron's decision, saying such sore loser bullshit like "I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE" and "You can take it to the bank." Wow. What a tool.

Majority owner Dan Gilbert's reaction

And to wrap up all this seriousness with some awesomeness, check out this video (if you haven't already seen it). Never seen a human so excited about a rainbow. And aside from the video hilarity, the description reads "It was rainbowing for at least an hour on January 8th 2010." I had no idea 'rainbowing' was an adjective.

Jordan dissed Chamillionaire

First the Hall of Fame acceptance speech, now this. I knew he wasn't a saint, but the amount of stuff coming out right now about how of a dick Michael Jordan is in real life is kind of surprising. How come nobody said anything earlier?

ESPN's "The Sports Guy" Bill Simmons, probably my favourite sports writer ever, has a chapter in his upcoming book about the discrepancy between Jordan's real life personality and his public relations persona. Book comes out October 27th and I've got that shit on pre-order. Can't wait.

Basketball Hall of Fame 2009

Sorry for the lack of recent posts, folks. Big Cee has been away on Realness Tour '09 and the rest of us need to pick up the slack.
Anyway, this year's class of Basketball Hall of Fame inductees could not have been any bigger if you grew up in the NBA's golden era like me. I don't think I really need to say much about Michael Jordan except that he's the greatest ever to pick up a basketball. Every other great NBA dynasty has had a dominant big man, and I mean DOMINANT. It's a big man's game after all. Jordan won six chips playing with such centers as Bill Cartwright, Will Perdue, Bill Wennington and Luc Longley. I own the Ultimate Jordan DVD boxset and the Chicago Bulls Dynasty boxset and regularly watch both over a mug of warm milk before bed. Sayin'.

But this year's class wasn't just big because of MJ. The other inductees were "The Admiral" David Robinson (shown below being dunked on by Lil Bow Wow, would have been one of the greatest players never to win a championship if Tim Duncan didn't land in his lap in '97), John Stockton (was one of the greatest players never to win a championship, being the all-time leader in both assists and steals), Jerry Sloan (perhaps the greatest coach never to win a championship). Hey it ain't their fault Jordan was playing at the same time. Legendary women's coach C. Vivian Stringer, who took three different college teams to the Final Four, was also inducted.

YouTube hoops star accepts Shaq's Twitter challenge

It's one thing to go and play with LeBron James. It's quite another to face Bruce Manley.

Perhaps you are not yet familiar with the name. Manley is something of a YouTube cult hero for his rather picturesque basketball trick shot skills.

Somehow, Shaquille O'Neal, the newest Cleveland Cavalier, saw the video. Apparently, his ego was piqued even more than when he saw Orlando's Dwight Howard claim to be Superman.

So what did the NBA's king of social networking do? He Twittered a challenge to a HORSEing duel.

"i wanna play this guy n horse for a thousand dollars, find him pls http://twitter.com/THE_REAL_SHAQ/status/2305266891," read Shaq's tweet.

According to the HoopDoctors.com, Manley has accepted Shaq's challenge and the contest should happen some time in July. So I really would encourage everyone to look at the YouTube video I have embedded.

If you are not utterly astonished by his tree-point shot, then your emotions have left you for another woman. And, yes, I said tree-point shot--no spelling mistake.

As for the shot Manley hits totally blind from behind a wall, well, if that isn't extraordinary talent then I am the new chief executive officer of the Golden State Warriors.

Will Shaq be able to compete against this kind of ability? It will be very interesting which H-O-R-S-E rules they choose to play. But, if I were a betting man, and perish the thought, I would be betting Manley.

Unless, of course, there's some very fine editing going on here.
