I gotta put this one on for the famo out here in TO. The homie Suundjaye, who is both a friend and our ever-suffering landlord, is a talented drummer in a band by the name of Earthtones. His partner, Aria, is an amazingly gifted singer and at the 2010 Manifesto festival in Toronto, these cats rocked a killer set, including this rendition of Mos Def's 'Umi Says'. Mos Def stops through the Prohibit NYC store and got to hear some of the new Self Scientific album. Damn, I’m beyond jealous right now… Self Sci is one of the dopest emce/producer duos out there. Chace & Khalil? Sheeeeeit! The joint playing is called Jetski, and might not even make the final cut. So Chace… if it doesn’t, I better get an email with the damn .mp3 haha! And despite internet rumors, Mos Def is still dropping The Ecstatic next week so be sure to support that real hip hop!
