What Cee be on... British India

I am absolutely loving Aussie rock right now. So many brilliant bands coming out of this country, it's mad impressive, particularly for someone like myself who has only recently gotten into the scene.

So I went and caught British India at the Corner Hotel last night, the first of two shows for the launch of their latest album, Avalanche. Openers City Riots, hailing from Adelaide, were really great, however this was the first show I've ever seen people too scared to be up front for. Really strange considering how solid their music was.

Big Scary were up next, a two piece (male singer/guitarist/keys, female drummer) who made a shitload of noise. Awesome stuff.

There was a solid gap between Big Scary and British India, and the mob was getting restless. I'd never been to a gig like this before, so me and my mate were right up front ready to go. Chants of 'Bri-tish, Bri-tish!' were hollered from the gaping mouths of the beer-swilling suburban hooligans, and this should have indicated what was to come.

Fuck I was shocked. I'd heard of 'slam pits' before but fuck me, up close, shit is hectic. If this happened at a Hip Hop gig, full scale riots would break out and it'd get mighty messy. But not here. The sweaty meatheads were happy to throw each other around as hard as they could, with damn near everyone around me screaming the words to every song. I was entranced; until some short ass broad knocked my camera out of my hand, which was duly stomped upon and the lens knocked firmly out of place.

That kinda ruined it for me, but I tried to put it out of my mind and enjoy the rest of the show. The boys were intense the whole time, the crowd loved it, so much energy. I really learned a lot about stage presentation from these fellas. I'd love to go again, but next time I'll stay far back from said pit of slam.

Check out the videos for the two singles from the album below.

What Cee be on... Miike Snow

So I think I might be a bit late on these cats, but Miike Snow are the shit. Quality indie/rock/eletronica. Their self titled debut is brilliant, and already been on heavy rotation for the past few days since copping it.

Check the video above for 'The Rabbit', which is a new single and not actually off their album. Shit is hilarious. It's got what every video needs: kids with beards, half naked dancing broads and a solid tribute to 2 Live Crew. Awesomeness.

So I've really gotten into Tame Impala recently. Missed their show the other week in Melbourne, and the boys are currently headed to the US to travel around the country with MGMT. Top work.

Check out the single 'Solitude Is Bliss' from their debut album 'Innerspeaker'. Video is pretty strange but I really the music.

What Cee be on... Yellow Brick Road

This is my favourite song in the world right now, has been for a few months. The melody is simple, and Angus doesn't have the greatest of voices, but the sweet and honest lyrics, the haunting guitar parts and extended outro all come together to make a magical piece of music. This is a live performance in Sydney earlier this year.

Look out for my 50 bar verse over this joint, coming soon...

What Cee be on... Laura Marling

I only discovered Laura Marling recently, and both of her albums - 'Alas I Cannot Swim' and 'I Speak Because I Can' - have made a serious impact in my musical world.

This was the only song I was able to embed (why the fuck do people keep disabling embed codes? Don't you want your videos spread virally so more folks can check them out? Seriously), and it's not exactly my favourite it's a solid example of Laura's work. Can't wait to check out the show in Melbourne in August.

This is my SHIT right now. I already am in love with Paramore, Hayley Williams' voice is incredible (I don't give a fuck that they got the Twilight joint), so to hear her murk a Hip Hop joint is even more impressive. Oh and there's Part 2 on the album that features Eminem, though his verse just doesn't really do it for me.

I heard it's a single, I'll post the video as soon as it's available. Just a brilliant hook, great song, dope beat. B.o.B FTW. I gotta say that I love the album 'The Adventures of Bobby Ray' even though most cats are hating.

What Cee be on... Christina Aguilera

This is possibly one of my favourite songs of all time. After coming back from living in Canada and travelling around North America, Europe and Cuba, Bekah and I decided to start learning Spanish, and this was one of the songs that helped us. I've never actually seen the video, so bonus, yo.

Conveniently, Christina has a new album, 'Bionic', dropping early June, and here's a random video of the single 'Not Myself Tonight' (no official video yet and the label has ripped down any other videos of the song - makes no sense to me, let people listen, fuckin'!). Little Xtina gets a bit wild on this one. Can't wait for the album.

What Cee be on... Smashing Pumpkins

I remember being the only dude (no exaggeration) in my year level at school into Hip Hop, and I repped it HARD. So when everyone was listening to The Smashing Pumpkins, I totally would never admit to liking it. Until now.

I actually bought 'Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness' the other day, and this is my favourite joint on the album. That riff is fucking killer.

I need a huge #latepass for this one, so excuse me. But these cats are insane. Dunno how I missed them; I was heavy into Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden etc back in the early '90s. Either way, this is some classic shit. The whole album ('Core') is amazing. If you dig any of the above bands, definitely check for this.

This joint, 'Plush', is probably their best known single.

What Cee be on...The Temper Trap

Back to my skinny jeans music...

So I've been on The Temper Trap for a minute - an indie rock outfit from Melbourne who are making some serious noise around the globe. However, I've only really gotten into 'em hard lately. These cats are playing in Melbourne in July so I'm already preparing myself for the gig.

Check the video for 'Science Of Fear' above; I tried to lace y'all with 'Sweet Disposition' but the damn thing was barred from embedding (a practice which I still don't understand).

What Cee be on...Angus and Julia Stone

So I'm ABOUT folky, acoustic music these days, especially since I started playing guitar again. I only discovered Angus & Julia Stone recently, and these guys are incredible. Check the videos below, which span most of their projects (in chronological order). Bliss N Eso fans might recognise 'Paper Aeroplane', which was sampled on their cut 'Eye Of The Storm'.

What Cee be on...La Roux

So tonight we're off to see La Roux. Yup, I said it. I actually want to go.

I don't recall ever being bagged for checking out a show in my life. Dudes were saying the broad sounds like a 'cat being strangled', and other assorted insults. But fuck it, I'm on this new musical journey of late and I love it.

So I'm vibed as shit for the gig, and check the video above (not a music video, unfortunately) for my fave joint on the album, Tigerlily.

What Cee be on...George, son

Aight, so I really like the idea of basically hitting y'all with a video of some of the new tunes I've been listening to. 'New' being new to me. See, I've been exploring music like I never have before recently, and it has truly had a profound impact on all aspects of my life. So I can't help but want to share the songs and artists that are moving me.

I gotta shout out MissCoca (check out her blog!) for putting me onto George. Remember them? I barely do. A band from Brisbane who were big in Australia in the '90s, these cats made some serious noise, mainly due to the angelic voice of Katie Noonan (who just dropped an EP, which is INCREDIBLE).

Check the video for this cut - 'Breathe In Now'. I so wish I remember this one when it dropped. It's honestly one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a while. Shivers every time.

What Cee be on today...

So while thinking of things to blog about, I thought 'How about I post a video of some new music that I'm into right now, that isn't the standard Hip Hop shit?' So I did. And I will keep doing it, coz I'm here to school y'all.

Aight, so I'm obsessed with Muse right now. These cats are amazing. Musically, they push boundaries. Damn near every song on stadium-status albums are about exposing the truth in what's happening in our society. Fucking incredible.

Check the weird ass (and shit quality) official video for 'Supermassive Black Hole' from their album 'Black Holes and Revelations', which I've had in my head for days. Do some research, these kids could blow your mind.
