Wow.
And just like that, it's over. Two thousand and fourteen was an incredible year for The Movement Fam, y'all. We were extremely blessed to have been able to reach a bunch of milestones that we're extremely proud of, we learned a lot, we made some amazing new friends and we had a ball along the way.
We hope 2014 was as fantastic for you guys as it was for us. And if it wasn't for y'all - from the bloggers and media showing love online, in print and on TV; to the radio and club DJs supporting our music, helping it chart and spreading the word arond the globe; to our artist homies who rolled with us on tour and schooled us proper; to the promoters who believed in us and put us on the huge shows continually; to the supporters who copped the music, merch and tickets - none of this would have been possible. So we'd truly like to thank you all - your love and support for our dreams mean more than you could possibly know.
Here are some of our highlights of 2014:
-The video for Notion's debut single 'Young & Crazy' (from his 'Pride On My Cufflinks' EP - courtesy of 9Block Productions) kicked off the year proper like.
-Cee's debut album 'This Is All I Know' dropped on his birthday, April 10th, and at midnight on the eve of release, it peaked at #6 in Canada and #8 in Australia on the iTunes Hip Hop charts (#91 in Canada and #66 in Australia in the Top 100 of all genres) - all with $0 budget and the power of the people!
-Cee and Notion headed out on three separate tours over the year - The Golden Tour (with Ghettosocks, Relic and Fresh Kils), The Palmer SquaresTour and The Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour (with The Bodega Brovas and Clarity).
-Cee teamed with US craft beer merch company BrewHeads to create an extremely unique product: a 100% Made in the USA custom snapback and 22k gold printed Bière Sommelier glass in a gift pack, along with a video (courtesy of 9Block Productions) for the world's first official craft beer anthem, 'BrewHeads'.
-At the top of the summer, Cee and Notion headlined the Port Hope All-Canadian Jazz Festival alongside Digital Junkie, performing a three hour set - for rappers, that's pretty much unheard of, still.
-The boys opened for some incredible acts in 2014, including Jeru The Damaja, Slum Village/The Pharcyde, Hilltop Hoods and Black Milk.
-And the fellas had their first ever Canadian television interview on V-Mix, broadcasted country-wide on the OMNI network.
-Also:
-Cee & Dr. MaD released the Deluxe Edition of their seminal debut EP 'Steps To The Peak' on its one year anniversary.
-We dropped a bunch of other videos: 'Rainy Days' ft. D-Shade, 'Another Day' ft. Notion & Nox, 'It Ain't Over' ft. Hezekiah, 'Another Day (Fresh Kils Nice Afternoon Remix)', 'Lift Up (Remix)' ft. iLLvibe and 'Intro' x The XX x Aria Zenua.
-All of our major projects ('Steps To The Peak', 'Pride On My Cufflinks' and 'This Is All I Know') charted in the Top 10 Hip Hop releases in College Radio stations across Canada - from Victoria, BC to Calgary, AB to London, ON to Montreal, QC, radio showed us a ton of love in 2014.
-We even managed to throw out a few loosies and features on y'all: '...And You Know It Is', 'Yank Me, Milk Me', 'Be Healthy 2014', 'Eya', 'Out The Basement' and 'Everyday (#SKWAD Remix)'.
So 2015...we're comin' for you. Notion's acoustic EP 'Out The Basement' and his debut album 'Heart On My Sleeve Music' are the first major releases on the schedule, along with tours and some other huge announcements...we're excited. Stay tuned. <3
