Ahhh, love a good model feature.
Now, I gotta say that this young lady is absolutely incredible. I have the honour of calling her my friend now, and not only is she absolutely stunning, she is one of the strongest people I know and also one of the most intelligent. We held off doing this feature until Kim had her latest shoot so we could hit y'all with the newest flicks possible. Take it away...
Cee: What’s your name?
Kim: Kimberley Grace Porter!
Cee: Where are you from?
Kim: Born and Bred in Melbourne, Australia. My background is a mish mash of English, Irish, Samoan, Chinese, Swiss, Scottish… I’m all mixed up in more ways than one. Haha!
Cee: How many years have you been modeling?
Kim: I started modeling when I was about 16 years old when I entered a modeling competition at a local shopping centre and came in 3rd place.
Cee: What are the misconceptions people commonly have about models that are untrue?
Kim: That modeling is our main purpose in life! It's more often than not just a little something on the side while pursuing other areas of interest. Unless you're Jennifer Hawkins, it's pretty difficult to earn a living from modeling alone. Another misconception is that models starve themselves or become bulimic to stay thin, which isn’t always true. Usually it's a diet of cigarettes, lettuce, and diet pills that does the trick! (jk)
Cee: What else do you get up to when not modeling?
Kim: I love to read and am a budding writer. Writing has always come very naturally to me, I am definitely a ‘words’ person. All things creative give me a huge buzz. Music is a big love, as is art and alternative culture. I am working on a few writing projects at the moment, I especially love the horror and thriller genres. Am stoked to see the new Harry Potter!
Cee: What shows, videos, magazines, etc. have you been featured in?
Kim: Girlfriend magazine, Modern Bride, Advertorial for Pantene, TV commercials for Sprite, Skittles, Libra, and Channel V and lots of different Fashion Parades in Melbourne and Sydney just to name a few.
Cee: What photographers have you worked with?
Kim: Phillip Riches, Christian Wilde, Jon Lee, and the amazing and incredibly cool chick Anita Frank who did my newest shots you see here.
Cee: What photographers would you like to work with?
Kim: It’s a bit of a stretch - but the famous Patrick Demarchelier. I’ve also recently seen the work of Lucia Ondrusova which is just stunning.
Cee: Can you describe the grind of a model trying to break into the industry?
Kim: Once you get representation by a good agency, the hard work really starts. Castings take up a lot of your time, stomping the streets of Melbourne rain, hail or shine with your portfolio under arm, and then you may only get one job out of 10-15 auditions or castings you go to. You have to be realistic about what you're expecting in terms of earning a living, and definitely have a second job and keep your options open. Even if you do really well, eventually you're going to want to do something that is a bit more stimulating for the mind. So don’t quit school or uni.
Cee: Any words for the ladies out there that have aspirations of entering the modeling industry?
Kim: Have a crack at it - But don't let it rule your life. Also, long shoots can be really really boring and most jobs involve a lot of waiting around - so you have to be able to entertain yourself in your own mind… A touch of insanity is a definitely required.
Cee: What are your plans from here?
Kim: I'd really like to get into Presenting and Acting. I can cry on cue which comes in very handy ;)
