The Movement Fam Live in Toronto in June

PROOF-Wss-June2011-500.jpg

June has already shaped up to be a big month for The Fam. My bad on slippin' on this but Notion, DJ Gentleman (making his TMF debut) and myself rocked a sick set at The Silver Dollar Room here in TO, and thanks to y'all, we pulled the biggest crowd of the night. It was stacks of fun, and hopefully we'll rock there again. And next Friday June 24th, we have a huge set as we're opening for the Track Avenue event at the legendary El Mocambo, with My Son The Hurricane and What She Said, along with March Fourth. It'll be a full line up - Notion, Cee, Bekah, DJ Gentleman and Pat Cole on the drums. Fucking vibed.

Hit me up for pre-sale tickets, otherwise we'll see y'all there! Flyers for both shows (along with FB event links) are after the jump...

So Canadian Music Week kicks off on Tuesday, and I'm vibed as hell. I'll be hitting the panels and checking out a bunch of dope acts over the week, really looking forward to it. Much love to Fiona Bloom for bringing the French reggae band DUB INC down to rock this week. The guys will be playing this Thursday 10th March at Rivoli (Queen St W) and Friday 11th March at El Mocambo (Spadina Ave and College St). Don't miss it!

What Cee Be On... Parkway Drive

I'm constantly discovering new music lately, and one of the genres I'm discovering the fastest is hardcore/metalcore. I'm a huge fan of this stuff, and especially these fellas from Byron Bay, Parkway Drive. I'm actually off to see them tonight, so there's no better time to post a few of their videos. The show is sold out already, and a couple thousand person venue, so it should be dope.

Aria Muzik - Change Is Good (live)

Peace to the brethren Suundjaye for sharing this one. Toronto soulstress Aria has an incredible voice and presence, and this video of her performing 'Change Is Good' is a perfect example of that. Pure dopeness. Peep game after the jump.

Aria Zenua and the Earthtones (video)

I gotta put this one on for the famo out here in TO. The homie Suundjaye, who is both a friend and our ever-suffering landlord, is a talented drummer in a band by the name of Earthtones. His partner, Aria, is an amazingly gifted singer and at the 2010 Manifesto festival in Toronto, these cats rocked a killer set, including this rendition of Mos Def's 'Umi Says'. Watch the video and throw in a comment on their YouTube page!

Willow Smith - Whip My Hair live on Ellen (video)

I know this is nepotism at it's finest, but this young lady can saaaang. She's 10, yo. And she's got the swag and confidence to carry it off, which is more than I can say for most 10 year olds. Then again, most kids didn't grow up with two movie star parents. Either way, she sounds great live (unlike Rihanna) and it's gonna be interesting watching her career.

So after dissing Saturday Night Live in the very song he's performing here, Mr West is rockin' the joint on the show. Irony. Dope performance as usual. I have a feeling that his still as yet untitled LP is gonna be game changing, yet again...

Eternia back in TO

Eternia Returns to Toronto from themanifesto.ca on Vimeo.

Extremely glad we here for this right now. WHAT UP, E? Peep the info after the jump...

"You know that face you got, when a real gritty, rugged track came on and you just mean-mugged to the rhythm of the track? Like, you were feeling it, but you were feeling the rapper’s disgust for whatever it may be. Well, Eternia, one of hip hop’s elite female lyricists, can and will make any listener do that. Why? Because she’s mean on the mic, fierce with her poetry, and relentless with her assault.

Always representing Toronto to the fullest extent, E has enjoyed quite the successful year as herself and MoSS (producer) finally released their much anticipated album At Last on the legendary Fat Beats Records. The album has a variety of features ranging from Rah Digga, Rage (Lady of Rage), Jessica Kaya, Tona, Maestro, Joell Ortiz,Termanology, Reef The Lost Cauze, as well as Tiye Pheonix, Jean Grae and Ras Kass on remixes.

Not jaded by the critical acclaim and fan satisfaction, E stays real with it, “I do one thing, and one thing only, and that is emcee. That’s it.” And that she does well. Always on the cusp of being undoubtedly one of Toronto’s finest, Eternia has definitely garnered plenty of attention in her other hometown, New York. A scene where the underground is big, if not bigger, than the mainstream facet, Eternia knows the importance of showing T Dot talent to the world. “People weren’t watching Toronto until recently,” E says with Manifesto TV, “Our artists are different.” While Manifesto attempts to bridge the two hip hop communities of New York and Toronto together, Eternia is living proof that it is accomplishable. Catch her at the Manifesto Main Event, September 26th, 2010 at Dundas Square in Downtown Toronto."

The Fam Moves show - new addition!

Aight, we have a new addition to our double launch gig/goodbye party here in Melbourne on September 11 @ John Curtin Hotel.

The homie Profecy, who we've known and worked with since he was 15, is rolling through all the way from Brisbane, and bringing the other homie Jae Druitt from Sydney with him.

They'll be rocking songs from his upcoming debut EP "Let The Music Play" which will be out September, and this is not only P's first Melbourne show, but his first trip to our fine city.

Check out Profecy's tunes and get ready...

On The Corner of Notion & 9th: First Leak plus The Fam Moves show

It's finally here! Man, it's been a hectic ride. Not only are we all trying to organise moving our lives to another continent, but The Movement Fam are in the midst of dropping two projects in the next month, along with putting the launch gig/goodbye show together. Things is wild right now, however we can now confirm that Notion's third mixtape, 'On The Corner of Notion & 9th: A Tribute to 9th Wonder' will officially be released via The Movement Fam Records on Friday 20th August 2010!

We can now release the first leak from the tape, 'Mastermind', a headnodding 9th beat with Notion's heated delivery. Check it out, and stay tuned to Notion's Bandcamp at 2pm (AEST) on August 20 (midnight east coast US time) for the release of the tape!

Download 'Mastermind' from On The Corner of Notion & 9th

While we're at it, here's the flyer for our goodbye party/double launch gig in Melbourne before we head off to Toronto on them one way tickets. It's the official launch of both Notion's 'On The Corner of Notion & 9th: A Tribute to 9th Wonder' mixtape and Cee & Bekah's debut album/compilation 'The Soul Movement Originals', and both Notion and Cee & Bekah will be doing an hour long set showcasing their new projects as well as covering their back catalogue.

Headlining the evening is fellow Soul Hop band You N Ur Music, a personal fave of ours and top blokes as well. Expect an especially scorching set. And opening the night is new comers Infinite & TruStylz, who are fresh faces in the scene that will definitely leave y'all vibed.

Once again, another reason why living in North America is the fucking shit.

Check out Rihanna's live show where she brings out surprise guest Eminem. 'Coz that would happen Down Under. Dopeness.

Oh and me and Notion went to the B.o.B gig in Melbourne last night. Wow. One of the illest shows I've ever seen. So much energy, awesome presence. Just pure showmanship. Dude is a superstar. He'll be playing arenas in a year if the universe is how it should be.

What Cee be on... Yellow Brick Road

This is my favourite song in the world right now, has been for a few months. The melody is simple, and Angus doesn't have the greatest of voices, but the sweet and honest lyrics, the haunting guitar parts and extended outro all come together to make a magical piece of music. This is a live performance in Sydney earlier this year.

Look out for my 50 bar verse over this joint, coming soon...
