Arte Y Lenguaje - Escalando Posiciones

Arte Y Lenguaje

Arte Y Lenguage

The homie Arte Y Lenguaje, hailing from Bogota, Colombia, has just released his third studio album, Escalando Posiciones ('Scaling Positions'), on February 21st this year.

The album features two collaborations with Cee & Bekah - 'Violencia Estado Militante' ('Militant State Violence') and 'Drogadiccion' ('Drug Addiction'). Most of the head-nodding, underground Hip Hop tracks have a political theme, reflecting Arte Y Lenguaje's experiences in the often turbulent social state of Colombia.

And we might as well announce this now - Arte Y Lenguaje has teamed up with Cee & Bekah to form an international Hip Hop/Soul/Latin group, Soul de la Tierra. We've recently started work on the as yet untitled album, and it's sounding fresh so far. This is a very unique project, as Ehiyel (Arte Y Lenguaje) speaks zero English, so it's up to me to harness my limited Spanish skills (alongside online translation services) to make it work. We'll keep y'all posted.

Check out the video for the first single from the album, 'Homenaje':

Emilio Rojas - 585 (Roc Y'all) Remix

Such a sick track. Produced by M-Phazes, though I don't think this is from Emilio and Phaze's Phaze One album (which I got a sneak preview of in New York. Fuck me, it's incredible).

The Movement Fam

Big ups to the homies at The Hip Hop Chronicle UK blog. This is a big ass blog in the UK, and they did a lil feature on The Fam, posting links to the two singles off our recent mixtapes - Notion's 'Enter My World' (produced by Da-Phai, from World Domi-NoTiOn), and Cee & Bekah's 'Anything For You' (produced by Whisper, from The Soul Movement Volume 2). Respect.

Kanye West - The Lost Songs

Aight, so once again the homie Kev done had that heat. I had to re-post this, shit is dope.

Artutabr and dani_46 (no idea who they are) put together this wicked compilation of lesser known Kanye tracks. Kev recently put up a bunch of DOPE Kanye compilations and even he was blown away by this one. The boys even got Fred Hart, who did some crazy artwork for the 808's & Heartbreak single covers, to do their artwork. Amazing.

8-bit Hip Hop Medley

8-bit Hip Hop Medley

Ever wondered what Hip Hop would have sounded like if it were used as the soundtrack to a NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) video game?

Me neither, but damn this is cool! Basically what some of Jay-Z, Kanye, T.I. and some other rappers beats would have sounded like on a video game in the 80's. Classic.

Now I'm waiting on some new-school rapper to flip the script (did I really just use that term?) and start sampling some old-school video game music.

It's not like it hasn't been done before.

There's Benefit's joint Warp To World 6-9 which uses the classic Super Mario Bros. sample.

Smif-n-Wessun (then Cocoa Brovaz) also flipped the Mario sample for Super Brooklyn. Ill shit.

Sampling Mario Bros. is almost too easy though. How about Extended F@mm's Line Drop, where they borrow the famous Tetris music and use it to great effect on the concept track. In the game, the music speeds up after dropping (and clearing) a number of lines. In the track, the beat/sample speeds up after each punchline dropped by the crew. Ridiculous.

Can I get a Jigga joint over some Metroid music?

How about a little Nas on a banging Ninja Gaiden (aka Shadow Warriors) beat?

Make it happen. Please.

Oh and if anyone is after MP3's of any of the tracks I linked, get at me via comments and I'll hook you up.

Josh Martinez Feat. Classified and Skratch Bastid - Going Back To Hali

Had to post this one. Even though Class only makes a small appearance, fans will appreciate. Most of us here at The Movement Fam are fans of Canada's Classified, so his cameo on this joint was something I was keen on peeping while waiting for his new album to drop.

I don't know much about the song itself, which really isn't that dope, so check the blurb below I ripped from another blog. Also, check out Classified's MySpace to hear his new single 'Anybody Listening?' off the album 'Self Explanatory' (which drops April 7th), which is actually fresh.

"My two favorite artists of early 2009 - Josh Martinez and Classified - just dropped their visual to the second single off Josh’s ultra-magnetic album The World Famous Sex Buffet. Featuring Skratch Bastid along for the ride, “Going Back To Hali” is a potent ode to their home town of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is somewhere in Canada where they probably smoke reeeally good. Either way, it’s nice to see artists lighten up and actually have fun in their music videos."

Aight, so I've been sleeping. The homie Sean Deez manages the producer EOM, who is doing an album with Wax. I never got around to checking them out until now. Here's a freestyle of Wax over 'A Milli'. Freakin' ridiculous.

Attention, Melbourne heads...

The homie Duncan has (sorta) recently opened up his Hip Hop store in St Kilda, the only one in the area, so we had to let y'all know about it. It's called You Name It, and it ain't your typical Hip Hop spot. It's one of the only places in Melbourne you can get dope New Era caps (and order what you want from a catalogue), skateboards, t-shirts, shoes, spray paint (Ironlak) and original artwork.

Oh and it's currently the only place in Melbourne you can buy Cee & Bekah t-shirts, as well as the whole Movement Fam catalogue of mixtapes. So drop by and tell 'em we sent ya!

TMZ just posted the following picture of Rihanna after her what looks like a fairly violent altercation with Chris Brown...

The Valentine's Day Mixtape Launch

Big ups to everyone that came down to support The Movement Fam as we launched DJ Grain & Notion's Valentine's Day mixtape on Saturday 14th February, at the Blue Tile Lounge in Melbourne.

We had a great turnout, we all looked fresh to death, and Chris from Fading Hour (also the drummer for The Movement Fam band) ripped shit up. This was definitely one of the most fun we've had on stage. Check the pics after the jump. Oh and shouts to Esscay and Thrizz for the photos!
