"What better way to wrap up 2012 (the world might even end tomorrow, who knows?) than to drop an original track for y'all? This song was originally written and recorded in 2007 for my boy's compilation album. It kinda kicked around since then; I tried to finish it a few times, it just never worked. Until now. Weapon X is prolly my favourite MC out of Australia, and one of my biggest inspirations, so it was a blessing to work with dude. Stoked that it came out how it did. Enjoy." Ah yeah...brand new shit for November, right on time... This cut is from 'The Soul Movement Volume 2' sessions and even though it's more than 4 years old, it's still mad relevant. I got my dude Blest2 to rock with me; I love having other languages on my songs, and this cat - from Athens, Greece - flows the illest that I've heard in any language (aside from English). The classic Non Phixion beat brought out the best in everyone on this tune, and lyrically it nails where I'm at today. Enjoy.
I've done a couple joints with the homie outta the UK, FlamesYall. He hit me with a joint for his new sex-themed EP, and I done fucked it up by not adhering to the topic. This kinda worked to our advantage, as now we have a single and a feature on the HipHopSpeakEasy.com Hurricane Sandy mixtape. Take a listen to the tune on FlamesYall's SoundCloud, and huge shouts to Worgie and Daryl S. Tattoo for the ridiculously dope guitar, and Notion for the mix/extra production. We got a joint on our hands, here...
Ah yeah. Time for October's new goddamn joint. 'ATLiens' is one of my favourite albums of all time, so I cut up the two illest joints from it and made them into a new one. This is the first track I've recorded in my new studio in Montreal, and it was dope to be able to speak on some of the shit I've been dealing with in the move from TO to MTL.
Ah yeah. I STAYS late, pimp. This is my September joint. It was from the Cee & Bekah 'The Soul Movement Volume 3' sessions, but we ran out of room on the tape for it. I really wanted to find a way to get it out, so this seemed like the perfect fit. 'The College Dropout' is one of my favourite and most influential albums of all time, so I had to go in on this one.
Oh yeah, son! The kid Notion finally dropped his debut single 'Young & Crazy' on y'all! Produced by Sydney's P.R, this is one of my fave tunes we've ever released, straight up.
It's up on iTunes right now and it's only $0.99 - bargain, eh. Maybe $1.69 in Australia. Bastards stay jackin' up prices.
New joint for August, sons! (Yeah it's late, I know) Penguin Prison opened for Miike Snow in Toronto recently, and I LOVED this jam. I got seriously fucked over by my job around the same time, so this song was perfect to let all that shit out on. Enjoy.
On Wednesday August 15th, I finally dropped my debut music video as a solo artist. Made in conjunction with the folks at Horse Bliss, we knocked out the video for my first solo cut 'Pot Of Gold' in a few hours in Toronto, Canada, and I'm stoked how dope it came out. We hit more than 400 views in like 5 days, which was amazing. Thanks to everyone who made this happen - Dave Dunville, Josh Telfer, Notion, Tiffany Alexis, Iskander Ben Amor, Eric, Shauna, Karsten and the rest of the crew. Watch 'Pot Of Gold (Horse Bliss Exclusive)' at the Horse Bliss Vimeo page.
Yeah, son. So in the span of four months, I managed to drop three volumes of my debut mixtape series and create a piece of art with both the music and the visuals that were solely conceived of by myself (of course with the help of Nosh [mixing/mastering], Josh [photography/art] and Tiff [model/support] to make it happen). I'm really proud of this shit. I've only ever been in groups since I started recording and performing 10 years ago (goddamn, time flies eh), so to go solo was a huge step for me. This third and final volume sees the culmination of the 27 songs of the series, completing The Indie Experiment. There's a bit of a mix of tunes on this one; about my girl, my city, my art, my stories, some shit talking, and some truth. I think it caps it off nicely.
Yup, late again on these posts. But I just moved to another province so that's my excuse this month. Aight so I dropped a joint with my brother Notion last month over this cut that Miguel released on his 'Art Dealer Chic Volume 2' mixtape called 'Broads'. He left the verses open so we just went in. The quality of the beat was pretty shithouse, so Nosh did what he could with it. Good for a laugh, anyway. Cop it free from www.ceetmf.com, cunts.
Yes, bitches! Volume 2 out this. For those who ain't know, this is the second volume of a three volume series of mixtapes where I try to do something that I haven’t heard anyone else do; rap over indie rock/electro/dubstep/alternative/folk/indie songs, while leaving the original tune intact and integrating my rhymes with the theme of the tracks. It’s also my first ever solo mixtape release, so I hope y’all dig it.
Of course, even though the blog has been out of action, the hustle hasn't quit. June was the last month of my monthly cuts leaking from 'The Indie Experiment' series, so get ready for some fresh shit come July.
What up, folks? So the blog is (sorta) back in action. At least it doesn't look like shit any more. My boys are working on a new design for us right now, so hopefully we'll have a fresh look in a few weeks.
That said, I'm about to do a quick update for all the shit we've released in the past couple months, starting with Notion...
Sigh. Once again, my bad on the extremely delayed post... This is the first volume of a three volume series of mixtapes where I try to do something that I haven't heard anyone else do; rap over indie rock/electro/dubstep/alternative/folk/indie songs, while leaving the original tune intact and integrating my rhymes with the theme of the tracks. It's also my first ever solo mixtape release, so I hope y'all dig it.
This is getting ridiculous eh? We need a blogger lol. Aight, for March, Uncle Nosh and I came with some heaters.
Nosh laced another cut with TruStylz, this time 'It's On' is the banger in question. Huge. Grab it free from Notion's Bandcamp page.
Grab it free from The Movement Fam Bandcamp anyway; it's a really great collection of music, regardless of the theme. There's two exclusive cuts this year, both from Cee & Bekah. The first is 'Close To Mine', over Trey Songz' 'Wonder Woman', and the other joint is actually an unofficial remix of Tony Williams' single 'Dreaming Of Your Love' (remixed by Kiri Kanes), which Tony himself actually asked us to do. Tony is Kanye West's cousin by the way, so it was a big fuckin' deal to us back in the day.
For the shortest month, Uncle Nosh dropped 'Level We At', a fuckin' banger with the homie from back home TruStylz. I love this one, definitely a personal favourite of all the joints Nosh and Truey did before we dipped. Cop it free from Nosh's Bandcamp.
My project is called 'The Indie Experiment'. Over the last couple of years, I picked up the guitar again (I've been playing on and off since I was 9) and discovered rock/indie/electro/alternative music, and it had a huge affect on me. I decided that I wanted to undertake my first ever solo project by adding my vocals to some of my favourite indie tunes, but instead of chopping the songs up like most rappers tend to do, I left the original song intact and placed my vocals around those of the artist, creating a whole new dichotomy for the song.
The good homies You And Your Music, who we've performed with a number of times before we dipped from Oz, have worked for 9 months putting together a fantastic video for the remix version of their single 'Keep On Spinning', which details the daily struggles of the bicycle courier. It's picked up some steam amongst the two-wheeler crowd, and in anticipation for the launch next month, the boys dropped a teaser for the video. Peep game. Also, you can catch the boys live with The Fam's own Bekah at the St Kilda Festival in a couple weeks!
Aaaaaaand we're kicking 2012 off with a foot to the balls, son. Notion plans to drop a track a month; and I'm gonna put my nuts on the line and say I'ma do it too.
So as promised, Nosh comes with the goods on his 'So Cold (Freestyle)'. Absolute banger, and you can download it free. Win.
